Why do houses have cracks?

Why do houses have cracks?

Posted on June 24, 2019 | June 24, 2019 by Jeremy Livermore, S.E., P.E.

There are so many houses with cracks in the stucco and dry wall. The question we often ask is why?…cracks are indications of structural movement typically caused by seismic activity or foundation differential settlement. This can cause Structural connections to detach as shown here at the ridge. Such disconnect reveals compromised integrity and lack of stability during future seismic events or future differential settlement.

A Structural Engineering evaluation and consultation is required to determine the right retrofit.
